On a sunny spring morning way back in 2015 we set out for our second trip to the Allegheny district. This time we had the Morning Glory stamp mill and a couple other explores cleanly in our sites. We had seen the Morning Glory posted on several explorer sites such as ripleysghosttowns.com, Guy Starbuck’s starbuck.org, gfxgold.com, and Lewis Shorb’s now defunct ghosttownexplorers.org. I am not sure why these sites decided to “out” the Morning Glory among so many other “top secret” locations but we are certainly glad they did. The mill is tucked in tightly within the trees of the north side of Kanaka Creek and simply driving along Kanaka Road or peering down through Google Earth it can barely even be seen. But its pin point location was easy enough to find with modern detective tools such as thediggins.com, mindat.org, and one of my favorites Acme Mapper.
The mill and surrounding structures have continued to greatly deteriorate as mother nature does her duty to reclaim the Morning Glory back into the earth. I always find it interesting to compare photos from paste adventurer’s to today to see this deterioration in action.
…truly haunted…deaths at the mine…
There really is no history of the Morning Glory out on the web to date. It is not know if the mine is truly haunted or if the rumors of deaths at the mine are even true. It would be awesome to find out some more history or old photos from someone who knows more!
