We took off on a warm summer day to look for mines near highway 49 south of Lake McClure and made a pass through Hornitos. I call it “Horny Toes” for fun. There’s actually a lot of history with 15,000 people at one point, the first Well’s Fargo office in the county (I believe its still standing) and real life bandit stories. We drove by the old abandoned cemetery on our way out of town. Its unusual in the number of trees planted around the graves in an open field. We didn’t feel like fence hoping this one for a picture. Current population is less than 100. There is a small cafe to eat at.
