The Old Dutch Cleanser Company obtained its pumice from this mine from 1923 to 1947. I know this is a gold mine site but I just could not resist adding this mine. We visited the soap mine in November 2014 and it made for some great photos and story’s to tell as well. The steep drifts and multiple adits are really cool. Not extremely dangerous but be carefull as you explore because the drifts are at a steep angle and appear bottomless with a flash light. Some are several hundred feet deep. Getting to the mine is pretty easy and you probably don’t even need a 4×4. Just a quick run up Last Chance Canyon Road off Hwy 14 north of Red Rock Canyon State Park.

PLEASE wear a good dust mask if you enter this mine. This pumicite will destroy your lungs. I suggest 3M 8511 or better for ease of breathing
