Originally I had written off the Kennedy as a mine to tour because it lacked a stamp mill or underground tour. Then in Oct 2014 we decided to explore the area and we signed up for the guided tour, glad we did. Our guide was well versed and our hour and a half tour was filled with interesting sights as you can tell from the gazillion photos we took.

Certainly the star of the Central Mother Lode.

The Kennedy Gold Mine in Jackson is open weekends for surface tours. The mine has many stand out features that make it interesting. There is a giant steel head frame which replaced the original wooden head frame and is now the tallest in existence. Certainly the star of the Central Mother Lode. Also famous as one of the deepest gold mines in the world at 6000 ft. Another claim to fame is the giant tailing wheels. Most of the buildings and equipment are early-mid 1900’s.
