The California Mother Lode is also know as the “Mother Lode” or ” Gold Country” stretches north to south along the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. Highway 49 meanders its way through the length of the Mother Lode. Famous for miles of hard rock gold deposits, the Mother Lode contains and almost endless supply of abandoned gold mines as well as hundreds of gold mine tours, museums and ghost towns.
